The Man Who Saved Cinerama — 10 Comments

  1. Jim, your Cinerama saga has been a fascinating read that's worthy of a biopic or a book, or both! Your account of John Harvey's contributions to the history of Cinerama is truly inspiring. I can't help but admire folks like John Harvey and John H. Mitchell who love keeping Cinerama alive for generations to come. BRAVO to you on your labor of love, Jim, and we of Team Bartilucci hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas and Happy 2013 full of more of your superb blog posts!

  2. Don't give up, Silver; if you live a convenient distance from Seattle, it'd be worth planning a special trip. If you can, try to make it for This Is Cinerama or How the West Was Won — or better still, both!

  3. He sounds like a remarkable man. Sadly, I haven't seen a real Cinerama film in a real theatre. When we were in Seattle last year, I dragged my husband to the Cinerama theatre but since we were unable to be there when it was open, we had to be content with staring longingly through the glass doors…

  4. Welcome, Glory-June, and thanks for the kind words! I see Larry and Jenny every year now at Cinevent in Columbus; Larry was kind enough to point out some inaccuracies in my original post at the precise moment it was inadvertently deleted (!) from my blog; I incorporated his remarks in the present reconstructed version.

My uncle in Muncie also made the pilgrimage to Dayton more than once during those four years; if I had lived closer I'd have gone back too — over and over, no doubt. And I know what you mean about that "only yesterday" feeling; while writing this post I was amazed to think that this was all sixteen years ago. (Or, to put it another way, in that time my brother has acquired five sons-and-daughters-in-law and twelve grandchildren!)
